What are dental implants?
Dental implants are used to replace damaged or missing teeth. The implant has two parts—a titanium post that’s carefully placed into the jawbone to act as a tooth ‘root’ and a crown (artificial tooth).
The dental implant procedure is usually done in stages. First, the titanium root is placed into the jaw. Then, once the bone and gum have healed, the crown is secured. The great thing about dental implants is that they look, feel and function like natural teeth, giving you a smile you can be proud of.

FAQs
What are dental implants?
Dental implants can be a wonderful option for people wanting to fill the gaps left from missing teeth. They are also a proactive tooth replacement solution for people who are about to lose teeth due to decay or gum disease.
There are two stages to dental implant surgery. First, a titanium implant is placed into your jaw bone. This acts as the ‘root’ for your new tooth. Once the gum and bone have healed (takes approximately 4-6 months), the new tooth (dental crown) is fixed to the implant.
Dental implants can replace one or multiple teeth. And the best part is that they look and feel like natural teeth. So, you can eat, speak, and smile with renewed confidence.
Are dental implants painful?
Don’t let fear about the pain of dental implants put you off. Modern technology and advances in dental techniques means that any discomfort is minimal.Local anaesthetic is also used during your procedure so you won’t feel any pain or discomfort. Plus, we have a range of sedation options to keep you calm and comfortable during your treatment.
Most patients choose to have their dental implant procedure done under IV sedation (also called ‘sleep dentistry’) where you are technically awake, but feel very sleepy and relaxed. Our sedation treatments are overseen by Dr Zoe Rodgers, our dedicated medical doctor with additional training in sedation treatment.
Mild soreness, swelling or discomfort may be experienced for a few days after surgery but can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief medication.
Am I a suitable candidate for dental implants?
Most patients are are good candidates for dental implants. In cases where there is bone loss, bone grafting can be performed to restore volume and density to the bone. The best way to find out if dental implants are the right treatment for you is to see us for your implant consultation.
How long do dental implants last?
With correct care, good oral hygiene and professional maintenance, your dental implants should last for many years to come. This means twice daily brushing and flossing, as well as regular check-ups with your dentist.
Are dental implants worth the cost?
Sure, replacing your missing teeth is a big investment, but not replacing them can come at a much bigger cost down the track.
If you leave the gap, it’s very likely that the surrounding teeth will drift into the space. This will leave more holes in your smile and may affect your bite or cause jaw issues and headaches. Missing teeth can lead to bone loss, making treatment more difficult.
Gaps in your smile can take a big toll on your self-esteem and confidence. Missing teeth can also make it difficult to chew, leaving many people avoiding their favourite foods. These things affect your quality and enjoyment of life. So, while we know that tooth implants are an investment, we think they’re worth it — and we’re confident you will too.
Will I have a gap during dental implant treatment?
There’s no need to hide your smile during dental implant treatment. While the implant is integrating with the bone, there are a few solutions available to maintain your smile and the function of the mouth. Depending on where in your mouth the implant is, a natural-looking temporary false tooth may be fitted.
